Am I an Expert??

Am I an expert??  Good question... I never feel like an expert because there is so much I don't know, but I have learn so much the last 14 years! I find when searching for information on organic and eco-friendly living, the vast majority of information is focused on organic food and safe cleaning products. My focus has always been on fabric, flooring, and furniture - Over the years I tried to fill this gap because I love sharing and teaching what I know with others.  Here is a little information about me:

  • 2000 - Started my interior design firm, Interiors by Samantha Cobos.
  • 2008 - Re-branded my design firm to focus on Green Design and renamed it PURE Inspired Design.
  • 2008 - Became a LEED AP (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional) - This is a test and it is HARD!
  • 2009 - Started this blog!
  • 2010 - Launched PURE Inspired Home, which provides Custom Organic Fabric and Eco-Friendly Upholstery.
  • 2012 - Built our eco-friendly PURE Sol Beach House featuring our PURE Beach Collection.
  • 2014 - Launched nest PURE, which provides organic and eco-friendly products that are all under $50.
I've learned an enormous amount through the years so maybe I am sort of an expert...  In the coming weeks and months I will share with you my knowledge and insights on organic and eco-friendly products which will help make your home not only healthy for your family but also modern, happy, and fun!

Breaking Ground
{ PURE Beach Dream Home, post #1 }

I've mentioned this before in my post "My dream... { boardwalks, beaches, biking }", we purchased a lot in Windmark Beach about 6 years ago for a vacation/retirement home .  This development is located in a little town call Port St. Joe on the panhandle of Florida - it is a very small ocean side town, which we love.  I'm so excited to share this news - we have FINALLY broke ground!!!  During the next 6 months I will be sharing the progress and interior design planning of our "PURE" Beach Dream Home.  We are on a tight budget, and I'm trying to be as eco-friendly as possible - it will be a challenge, but I am up for it!!! Here are the drawing and photos of the development, as well as Port St. Joe.  I can't wait to share more!!

AMAZING upcycled catalogs!!

I love things made with recycled magazine - I blogged about it before here, so I came across BluReco in the Recycled-Market, I had to share.  The technique is call paper wicker - the paper is from discontinued catalogs.  You would think they would be disposable because it is made from paper, but a clear glossy coat is applied to the finished product so they can be cleaned with a damp cloth.  The texture and colors are so beautiful, and the workmanship is AMAZING!

What makes BluReco eco-friendly?
  • made with upcycled, discontinued catalogs
  • hand made

Nature Inspired Design { guest post }

Today we have a guest blogger - Ryan from HomeCity!  Ryan came up with the Nature Inspired Design idea and also wrote the text of the article.  I helped by finding great inspirational photos from pinterest to support the it.  Great team work - Thank you Ryan!

Using wood and stone to decorate the interior of your home is no new concept by any means; however, modern designs that are inspired by nature are giving a fresh twist to trusty natural materials. Glass and sleek medal design may have had its place for a while in the interior design cannon, but natural materials and outdoor textures are coming inside and planting some roots.

The separation between what are appropriate materials for indoor vs. outdoor design has diminished. From rough cut tree stump end tables in the living room to natural stone hearths and inlay the walls and doors that previously kept these things out are opening wide and inviting them in.

Yes, we’ll see a few vases filled with branches, but the incorporation of nature with interior design will be more functional and integrated than that with natural wood grain providing the most attractive of details for tables, chairs and sofas. You will even see beautiful, sturdy branches used as railing for the stairs. Smooth, natural stone isn’t just for hearths either; entire walls and floors can be covered in it especially in the bathroom. The rustic and sturdy feel to stonework will help keep those rooms cool in the summer too.

We encounter the fake all day everyday, plastics and synthetics. Why not create a space for yourself at home that has a solid longevity to it and a calming sturdiness that only nature can generate.

Ryan is a guest post blogger, she writes about interior design trends and real estate matters like homes for sale Austin TX, Buda homes for sale and remodeling issues such as garden window prices.

Reclaim LOVE!

I'm loving the reclaimed wood benches and tables from Urban Wood Goods!  I love the character of the thick wood slabs and I'm a HUGE fan of hairpin legs. Such a great FRIDAY find!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Fresh, petal furniture, REALLY??

Happy March everyone!  I'm thinking of Spring - I know here in Minnesota we have a while to wait, but I can feel it coming!  With flowers on my mind, I came across the Italian company 13 ricrea - I believe recrea in Italian is "recreate".  I literally gasped when I saw the furniture.  All their product are made from recycled latex and other upcycled materials. The designs look fresh and SO BEAUTIFUL like fragrant petals!  Let's hope for an early Spring - I'm ready!!

Steel Character of John Beck...

Last week I posted Chalkboard Pendants by John Beck Paper and Steel - I really love their work!  It is a combination of industrial and rustic so it doesn't feel cold, instead it is full of character and depth.  Very inspiring!

What makes John Beck Paper and Steel furniture eco-friendly?  Well, they say they are not "green", they are responsible.  Their responsibilities include:
  • water based patinas & environmentally friendly clear coats
  • handcrafted in the USA from recycled steel
  • planting trees
  • helping disadvantaged folks in the ‘hood
  • and they recycle, including their beer cans

Sweet paper pendants...

I've been a little slow at blogging lately - I'm working on something BIG, which I will share soon.  But I had to share these paper pendants by Zipper 8 Lighting.  So sweet, sculptural, and eco-friendly.  I noticed it in an online magazine call Sweet Paul Magazine - check it out, it's very fun.  Have a great day everyone!
